Preschool

In 1972, the Christian Education Committee of the Presbyterian Church of Easton was approached by community leaders to consider a weekday nursery school. It was approved by the Session of the church to support the Nursery School with 12 children enrolled in the first year.
Within 2 years, the Nursery School expanded from two days to three days with 16 children enrolled. The children were divided by age into two classrooms with enrollment increasing to 30 children and 2 additional staff members.
By January 1980, the Nursery School was self-supporting with funds from tuition, local grants and fund-raising events.
Over the next 40 years, the Nursery School grew and became known as Presbyterian Preschool. Today, our enrollment consists of 38 children. We currently have 3 classes - Caterpillar class (2s), Chrysalis class (3s) and Butterfly class (4s). Our Caterpillar class is on Monday and Tuesday; the Chrysalis class attends on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and the Butterfly class attends five (5) days a week. Each class meets from 9 a.m. to noon. There are 12 children in each of the Caterpillar and Chrysalis classes and 14 children in the Butterfly class. Each classroom is staffed by two teachers. The preschool is licensed by the Office of Childcare and is also governed by the Maryland State Department of Education. The preschool also holds a Maryland Excels rating.
In addition to daily learning, the preschool has many special events throughout the school year. The children participate in fire safety activities, a Thanksgiving feast, Christmas Program and Easter events. Also, throughout the school year, we have special readers from the church who love to spend time with the preschoolers. We partner with the Talbot County Free Library for story time and have community entities visits such as Talbot Humane and the Empower Me program through social services.
The Presbyterian Preschool prides on being a family environment in which children can begin their foundation and love of learning in a safe, and fun environment.
Preschool Staff
My 3 children have attended PPS since 2019. A friend of mine found this perfect little preschool and it became evident since day one that this is exactly where my children were meant to be. Everything about PPS is what I dreamed of for my children’s preschool experience. They thrive socially, learn independence, and I am constantly impressed by the crafts, activities and lessons they complete. My children have been well prepared and have soared in elementary school after their foundational years here. Perhaps the most important thing to me though, is the extreme level of comfort I feel leaving them. The children’s safety is priority and communication is top notch. Missy and the entire staff have become an extension of my family and vital parts of my village. They go above and beyond to provide love and support not only to my children, but to my husband and I as well. I will forever be grateful for the years here and I only wish they could’ve stayed longer!
